Saadiyat Island

While Urban Design Director at EDAW | AECOM, Guy Briggs lead a team of up to 30 architects, planners and urban designers in the development of a master plan for this 2,700 hectare urban extension to Abu Dhabi. When complete, this city within a city will house 150,000 people, provide space for 200,000 jobs and accommodate 6 major museums (including the Louvre and Guggenheim in Abu Dhabi) in 16 million sqm of development.

The project was developed over a period of two years, working from strategy to detailed design guidelines; and included a suite of documentation covering island-wide land use strategies, open space strategies and socio-economic strategies; detailed master plans for 5 of the 7 districts (including the two major urban districts; and design guidelines for each district.

Documentation also included an outline planning application for the total island development, as well as a series of detailed plot development sheets setting out the development parameters on a plot by plot basis.
